SBS - and the Arab Lobby

Ms Rachel Merhav of Bentleigh put in a number of complaints to SBS. One of those concerned itself with bias in the program "Dateline". One of the points Rachel made was that in order to be balanced SBS ought to run a program on the workings of the "Arab lobby", not focusing just on the "Jewish lobby".

She received what in my opinion was an extraordinary answer from SBS:

"As far as we know there is no such organised campus [Arab] lobby. We have not heard of an Arab Lobby organised along the lines of Campus Watch or The David Project. I think if such an organised lobby existed .... then it would indeed be a good story and we would report it."

This answer was given by Mike Carey, Executive Producer of Dateline.

It seems to me that what Carey is saying if you look closely, is that any lobby which is organised along the same lines as the Jewish Lobby is newsworthy, but any lobby group which may be organised in a different manner is of little or no interest!
