Captive on human rights

SUPPORT for Israel marks the fault-line between the postmodern, cultural relativist, multicultural Left and the traditional Left that rejects relativism and supports instead universal human rights and pluralism.

The traditional Left helped establish Israel. Many lawyers such as Julius Stone consider the West Bank disputed, not occupied territory.

Sadly, the UN is now dominated by the block voting of the 57-member Organisation of Islamic Co-operation and the 120 member Non-Aligned Movement. Under political and terrorist pressure, the UN is abandoning universal human rights in favour of relativism.

The UN and our Human Rights Commission seek to implement sharia blasphemy law under the guise of hate speech laws while effectively ignoring widespread breaches of the core human rights of freedom of speech and religion, and non-discrimination, resulting from criminalisation of apostasy and blasphemy, and anti-Semitism, throughout the Muslim ummah and even the West.

The Human Rights Commission is captive to cultural relativism. The boycott, divestment and sanctions movement's case is a good test of its bona fides. It is time to reform its staff and its operations.
